Pillars of Democracy played an integral role in this two-day conference, which brought together the twenty-one local Leagues from across Wisconsin. Centered on the intersection of arts and civic activism, the event highlighted key policy initiatives pursued by the League of Women Voters of Wisconsin alongside community-based art activation projects from the past year.
On Saturday, June 7th, I delivered the keynote address, focusing on the making of Pillars of Democracy. The speech outlined the core ideas explored in the accompanying longform essay, offering a framework for understanding the project’s vision and impact. The response from League members was overwhelming, affirming, and deeply meaningful. At the close of the meeting, they voted unanimously to bring Pillars of Democracy to the Wisconsin State Capitol in Madison for the 60th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act on August 6, 2025.
